Mrs Laura Poh, who heads some of Poh Group’s subsidiaries, is also actively involved in community service.  She is a member of the Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) Fund, which reaches out to disadvantaged children and youth, both in Singapore and overseas, in the hope of developing them into contributing members of society. These children and youth come from troubled or low-income families and impoverished communities, and are often caught in a downward cycle destined by their circumstances. MILK supports them in their education, care and guidance, vocational and livelihood development, or other special needs. In 2012-2013, MILK disbursed about $11.5m for its various programmes which helped more than 7,000 children in Singapore and more than 24,000 children in the region.

Mrs Poh is also Vice-Chairperson at Compassion Fund which gives support to needy students from low-income families who are in crisis due to the death, sudden major illness or accident of the breadwinner. Without assistance and support, such families in crisis are at risk of declining into poverty and developing chronic family problems, with a detrimental impact on the lives of the children. Compassion Fund aims to give early and timely assistance to these families before situations spiral out of hand.  It is a fund offering interim assistance that will link beneficiaries with longer-term help if necessary. Compassion Fund also engage the student community in raising awareness and funds to help fellow students in need.
